Changes / Fixes

This release focuses on train sync and networking improvements.
Please report any bugs by either raising an issue or visiting the discord discussion thread. Be sure to include both the host and client player.log files in your report.

Networking

• Improved options for game visibility, adding 'Friends' option so only your Steam friends can see the game.
• Improved interface with Steam's invite system - now friends can join your game from their Steam Friends list
• Added logging for high pings to help with troubleshooting
• Fixed an issue where the server does not shutdown correctly and prevents you from hosting another game without completely restarting Derail Valley
• Reduced network spam from derailed cars

Game

• Fixed issues with sync of cars and locos - coupling now is correctly matched on both server and client
• Clients can no longer send hose disconnect messages prior to the car fully loading. This should fix the issue where a slow client causes the hoses to spontaneously disconnect
• Clients can no longer send switch and turntable changes until the states have fully sync'd. This fixes a (rare) issue where a player joining can change a switch state and cause a derailment
• Re-enabled bogie sounds on clients
• Reworked train physics sync
  • Hopefully smoother experience
  • Derailments now sync correctly
  • Derailed carriages should now settle down once they have completely stopped moving on the server
  • Coupling breaks are now driven by the server

Known Bugs

• Clients are unable to self service locomotives - self service objects (e.g. pipes, chutes, plugs, nozzles) not synced
• Horns, whistles and steam loco reversers can play up when more than one player is in the loco; this is not a breaking issue, only a mild inconvenience.
• MU chains behave the same as the horns and whistles, playable but mildly annoying
• Shop, world items, inventory for players other than the host not yet synced - job overviews, booklets and reports are partially sync'd
• Many other minor bugs and inconveniences, which we'll work through as we tick off the bigger issues.
• New game features including "Demonstrator vehicles" are not completely sync'd and will be worked on over the coming releases.
• When a job is completed and the Job Booklet is turned in by a client, cash only spawns on the host's game - this is expected to be fixed with Item Sync.
• When a job is completed and the Job Booklet is turned in by a client, the booklet may have incorrect information; this is a visual only bug.

Features in progress

• Job sync - This is on hold, pending release of item sync
• Item sync - good progress has been made; there were a few outstanding issues we were working on prior to B99's release. Major updates in B99 (many new "smart" items and a new mounting system) will delay the release of this feature
