youtube and other video sites not working

Youtube loads, I see the opening screen of the video, but when I hit play, I just get a loading spinner. It never plays.

This is on a fresh install using the default browser Firefox. I'm assuming it is a codec or drm type problem, but I have been unable so far to google my way to an answer so I came here. Sorry if it is an annoying question.

Hi Hi, Can you open the console with F12 and the network tab and sent us the errors?
That will allow me to have a bit more info on what may be going wrong.

Additionally what desktop or window manager are you using and are you on NVIDIA hardware, Intel or AMD?

ps please make sure to disable all add-ons while testing

Hi. Thanks for such a quick response! I was truly surprised! As it turns out, the problem has now changed. I restarted the computer to come and answer your questions, and now the problem is a bit different:

• on Youtube, the videos play instead of just showing the loading spinner
• but no sound happens

So I looked at my sound settings and my output device no longer lists my headphones. yesterday when I created this issue, my headphones were correctly listed. now it shows just shows my hdmi / displayport monitor as the only choice.

Strangely, the microphone on my headphones IS showing up as an input device.

So, after the reboot, Youtube seems like it would work, but now my output device is missing. Maybe that helped in some strange way that really doesn't help :)

I have not installed anything else yet, nor any addons.

I have the default GNOME desktop, with NVIDIA hardware. The details are:

OK so this is strange, I just tried again and it is back to the original problem. The output device knows about my headphones. But videos just sit there spinning. I have an idea that it might be related to the fact that I am using a KVM switch to control that computer and my main with the same set of devices... including my headphones. I'm going to steal some old wired headphones from one of my kids and see if that makes a difference.

wow that was it! the KVM apparently doesn't play nicely enough with AerynOS to support my USB wireless headphones. My mouse and keyboard work fine. I'll just get separate headphones for that computer.

to be clear, this same KVM and PC combination work fine with other OS, like Windows and Mint, previously Manjaro which has been replaced by AerynOS now. I'm not complaining, just being clear in case it is still worth working on.
