Nix Flake Setup

Thank you for the great work—your helper is amazing!
I'm struggling a bit with the environment setup, as I'm currently doing it manually. Could you guide me on setting up a Nix flake? I'm unsure where to place the flake.nix file to make it work. Alternatively, could you point me to a helpful guide?

Hi there! I'm glad the extension helps you! Setting up nix is quite involved, but I think it's worth it. What operating system are you on? I've used nix on OSX and Linux, it works really well there. I personally use Determinate Nix to install nix, which already takes a lot of the struggles of the install away. Then I'd recommend creating a flake.nix for home-manager, which basically creates a nix environment for your user. I use it to set up general tools, like neovim, git, ripgrep, lazygit etc. I also install nix-direnv via home-manager. This then allows to create a flake.nix in any project folder, that locally installs an isolated environment in that folder. That is a game changer, if you work with various tools and projects, as you can have a specific, defined and clean environment for every project independently.
