Broken with latest update

Hi,

For some reason the provided steps do not work on Nix
Due to the nature of nix, the upgrade where the the zenmod theme was deleted only came about last week and i found myself with fully transparent menus.

Steps follows:

• i deleted the old theme from the settings, now the zentheme.css inside the already existing chrome folder inside my ~/.zen/profilefolder/ reverted to being empty. (previously there was an import line pointing inside the zen-themes subfolder.
• i added the userChrome.css and followed the steps to enable the browser toolbox aswell but for some reason the userChrome.css file never gets taken into account. I also added the line uc.pywalzen.darkness in about:conffig and tried switching between default/dark/darker)
• if i fetch colors from the pywalfox addon i can see it regularly updated (in the addon page) but zen itself stays to its default.

I remember doing edits in the userChrome.css in the past on firefox and never had any issue. I have no idea why it's not working, maybe i am missing something

Hi, after the latest update, PywalZen isn't working. I'm trying to isolate Pywalfox's colors again but I'm having trouble finding any in the current styling. :/

Same issue on archlinux, followed the steps but I never seem to be able to find the userChrome.css in the style editor, nor is it taking effect.

oh so it's not a nixos issue.
i'll edit the title of the issue then.

it's super strange because i have fiddled with userChrome.css a lot in the past, when i was using firefox still, to make lit look exactly like Zen (with the collapsed sidebar and such).

With the latest release it's as if it ignores completely,,.

Well, after looking at Zen's styles for a few hours (yup) there isn't a single variable that I can use to map Pywalfox's colors.
I'm thinking on making a fork of Pywalfox to make it work with Zen, but I have to learn how it works. It will take some time.

yeah don't loose your wits about it.

It was nice to have but, Zen is moving fast and personally i can just slam a blurred theme on it and call it a day, It's ahestetics in the end and what you've done is more than enough!

I was thinking... isn't the problem that your css relies on checking using has for a given theme element (:root:has(#theme-PywalZen[uc-pywalzen-darkness="default"]) ) and pywalfox relies on setting its theme under the hood? Meanwhile zen completely did away with native FF themes, they are gone from settings, I cannot locate a way reactivate this UI in about:config... I guess it might be that zen's design language and underlying setup diverged so much from base FF that maubg might be intentionally removing stuff that just simply will not work at this point and/or break his custom theme. Which saddens me as I literally use zen for vertical tabs and workspaces. I am a web dev so transparency on page makes no sense to me, custom ui gradient pickers don't make sense to me. I feel I am diverging a lot from the zen way. I fell the browser started catering to sugar-painting members of r/unixporn not productive people. So much effort and drama about a damn custom theming engine instead of actually useful features. I know this is ironic in context of me trying to use pywal XD I don't know... I normally don't use this zen "inventions" for clicking people. I have my preferred colors simply hardcoded into userChrome.css. I could have wallust write new colors easily. The problem is I don't see a way to get the browser to hot reload after the stylesheet updates. If it could I would not care the slightest about the custom pywalfox ui and pipeline. Lemme just change colors and hot reload ui. Do you think this could be easier to achieve?
BTW. Sorry for rumbling. I wanted to attempt doing this whole generated colors thing and zen disappointed me when I looked into this.

@tom-gora The problem is that there are no CSS color variables left in Zen that are modified by Pywalfox. Indeed, Zen diverged its styling a LOT from Firefox, so mapping isn't possible right now.
I also wish userChrome.css could be hot-reloaded. That way it would be a lot easier to implement. But I haven't achieved this either. Maybe there's a way, just like when using the inspector and live debugging mode.
I have hopes, but right now the only thing that I'm "sure" would work is forking Pywalfox.

After some deliberation (cuz I don't need doing the whole diving into a rabbit hole thing) I said fuck it XD I disable all hover behaviors in zen UI anyway and have totally keyboard driven navigation, sidebar fly out... I rarely even see the browser UI. I set the dark reader to default colours, set zen colours to shades of those and I'm good having the browser being this simple monochrome island for productivity.

@tom-gora Haha, I did put #000000 as Zen's background color so basically same, though I don't hide the sidebar all the time because I like to have a general overview of what I'm doing. :D
