Not really a bug, so much as a future bug. Eventually, Steam will support Wayland natively. Already, proton has experimental Wayland support allowing proton games to run on the Wayland compositor. It's disabled for now, due to it being buggy, but it indicates Valve is moving in that direction. Once proton games run under Wayland, xdotool will no longer work to set the WM_CLASS. From my understanding, something like ydotool may be a suitable alternative, but I'm not sure if it is able to set a window class in wayland. sway's window manager is capable of setting wayland window classes -- we could look at their solution?
