Waybar suppresses shimeji render

When a part of shimeji is overlapping with Waybar, this part doesn't update it's rendered position unless Waybar itself is being re-rendered or something (eg. changing wallpapers or workspace switching) updates it.

Maybe it's related to waybar itself but opening issue here anyway in case of some bug.

Looks very strange; probably another compositor bug. The mascot is definitely above Waybar, so it should force the compositor to re-render the part of the screen where the movement occurred. It doesn't seem like a Waybar issue, but maybe we should report this to them as well. I will open an issue in Hyprland's repository later, once I know exactly what is happening here.

After further investigations I noticed that on my second screen (1440x900@75, scaling 0.75) there is less of tearing between two halves and just a single line that shimeji leave behind

I also tried to investigate this issue using hyprland debug feature that blinks every updating surface, but when I turn it on, mascot renders normally, and also it doesn't blink fully. Maybe it's another compositor specific bug in render.

I also have the same problem with hyprland and the bar from retrozinndevs colorshell. What happens is that the mascot tears but corrects itself each time the bar gets updated. So if i set my clock to show seconds it will update the mascot every second but if i set it to only show minutes it will update the mascot every minute. I also did some testing and what seems to fix it is setting damage-tracking to monitor in hyprland. This however is suboptimal since this is a debug option only.

The way I solved this was editing actions.xml file of the mascots themselves and adjusting the pivot point. Some of the mascots I was using had different sizes (specially when upside down) so I normilized all images in 128x128 and adjusted the Y pivot of the ClimbCeiling move to 0. This made characters walk on the waybar instead of through it.
