Assignment 6a (PostgreSQL Integration):

Clarify that .env should not be committed to GitHub and should be added to .gitignore.
Add a reminder to explicitly run psql -f schema.sql to create tables before testing.
Simplify the SSL configuration note — most local setups do not need ssl: { rejectUnauthorized: false }.
Recommend using await pool.end() when stopping the app to close connections cleanly.
Add a short example showing expected Postman requests and responses for /health and /api/users/register.

Assignment 6b (Prisma Integration):
Clarify that npx prisma generate must be rerun every time the Prisma schema changes.
Add a note about disconnecting the Prisma client (await prisma.$disconnect()) on shutdown or in tests.
Include a short example showing a prisma.user.findUnique query using include: { tasks: true } to demonstrate relationships.
Explain briefly how to handle Prisma error codes (P2002, P2025, P2003) with proper HTTP status codes.

Could I get some clarity on references to 6a and 6b?

In Assignment 6: Prisma ORM Integration, Assignment 6a, assignment6a, and assignment 6a are mentioned in the Assignment Overview section. And again at the very end: Remember: This assignment builds on Assignment 6a. ...

These three things make me think that the state of the students' code should be a fully functioning assignment5 branch. And that all references to 6a should instead reference assignment5:

• The first mention of 6a in the Assignment Overview section with this In this assignment, you will transform your existing PostgreSQL application (from Assignment 6a) to use Prisma ORM instead of raw SQL queries. sentence.
• And this line at the very end: Remember: This assignment builds on Assignment 6a. ...
• Complete Assignment 6b following this lesson is found under the Next Steps section of Lesson 6: Using an Object Relational Mapping. However there is no mention of 6a in that lesson.

Notes:

• assignment5 branch is never mentioned in either the Lesson 6: Using an Object Relational Mapping nor in Assignment 6: Prisma ORM Integration.
• Assignment 5 is mentioned in the Prerequisites section of Assignment 6: Prisma ORM Integration.

If I am mistaken, I could use a bit of help understanding it better. Thank you!

Advanced Prisma Features is referenced in Lesson 6: Using an Object Relational Mapping and inAssignment 6: Prisma ORM Integration.

However, there is no reference to that file specifically. And the first line starts with 4. Advanced Prisma Features.

Hi @JamieBort ! Great question. This confusion comes from an earlier version of the curriculum.

Originally, Assignment 6a covered moving an app from in memory data to PostgreSQL and Assignment 6b introduced Prisma. The curriculum was later restructured so that PostgreSQL and raw SQL are now taught in Lesson 5, and Prisma begins in Lesson 6.

Because of this change, references to 6a and 6b are no longer accurate. Lesson 6 does not mention 6a or 6b. Lesson 6 is the first place Prisma appears, with Postgres already in place from Lesson 5

You’re not misunderstanding anything. The older references just haven’t been fully cleaned up yet, and we will be working on that. The file https://github.com/Code-the-Dream-School/node-essentials/blob/main/lessons/lesson6-moved.md is also a version from where we restructured and should be deleted.

I am seeing that the Prisma I: Using an ORM lesson in the Learns App (https://classes.codethedream.org/) does not reflect changes found in the node-essentials repo.

For example, online *Migration* If there is no existing database schema, ... is formatted differently than in the repo.

2. **Migration** If there is no existing database schema, Prisma schema definitions can be created by hand, like those above. Then, those schema definitions are used to create tables with corresponding columns, constraints, and indexes. This process is called **migration**. If there is existing data, it can be preserved.

I was following along with the Learns App. I assume this not news to anyone. Should I be using the repo instead? Out of curiosity, what frequency is the Learns App updated?

Now that I have finished the assignment, I am writing up my final thoughts to provide feedback in the PR.

That said, I was not able to run the npm run tdd assignment6 command successfully. I think that is due in part to my file structure. (For me) The root directory for this assignment is node-homework/. Rather than node-homework/assignment6/.

In an attempt to run the npm run tdd assignment6 command correctly, I moved all of the pertantant files and directories into node-homework/assignment6/. However that still did not work.

I'd like to be thorough with this PR so if anyone would like to take the time to educate me on how the node-homework/ directory should be structured, I'd appreciate it.

Otherwise I'll submit the PR without running the tests.

Also, fwiw, I didn't receive a response to my comment above. (I also didn't tag anyone in particular. I can't remember if that was intentional or not.) Be that as it may, please disregard it. I ended up following the instructions/lesson from the CtD Learns App.
However, I am not sure which to follow as I review the lesson. I assume the repo is the source of truth/the most up-to-date. Is that correct?

@GinaCastromonte, WRT formatting files in the repo, I use a formatter that runs any time I save the file. As a result it will effect how these files appear.

Are these files automatically formatted at some point between when the PR is created and when the is merged/accepted?

For the moment I have the formatter disabled. Because I am not sure how else to proceed.

If they're formatted later on, before being merged in, I believe that it is a moot point.
Another thought is I use a formatting config file to match the formatting of the repo.
