No push notifications after update to noble

After upgrading ubuntu touch to 24.04-1.0 and updating Cinny UT to 4.10.0.2n, i don't get push notifications any more when i receive messages.
push notifications came inreliably only for every second or third message for one or two days, then stopped coming alltogether since.

i'm using Cinny UT almost eyclusively with a signal bridge bot, if thats of impotants.
using a fairphone 4.

i have seen somebody post the same issue (no push notifications after Cinny and Ubuntu touch update to noble) on a volla phone in ubports forum few days ago.

There are issues with notifications on noble also for Teleports. I had a few days without any notifications from both. Now they work again. For signal bridged messages I didn't get notifications on focal either, although that seemed to work initially. Sadly this is a bit hit or miss. I am not sure if this is a Cinny issue or a UT push server issue, since for instance dekko notifs come in fine.

Are you on noble daily? Also do you see Cinny in system settings - notifications?

Also please check your Cinny notification settings. I am not sure if they maybe got reset. Also I am right now checking settings myself. I do have room notifs set to disable in global settings. That would make all signal rooms silent. I need to try changing that.

thanks for your detailed answer and support. This might really be a UT issue. I realised that also no number bubbles pop up on the app quick drawer if i get Cinny messages or sms (though for sms i still get push notifications) since the update to noble.
For signal bridge messages until the update to noble i got a push notification (though without message preview). i am in noble daily and in system notification settings Cinny UT is activated. Also checked notification settings in Cinny and notifications for every message type are activated. i switched to "notify silent" (from "notify loud") yesterday and realised that i still get a ring tone if a message arrives, which is weird and also what Charly reported in UBports forum (the one who also didn't get pushs from Cinny).
i noticed that in cinny notification settings, right at the top, there is a setting called "desktop notification". There is a button "enable" but nothing happens/changes when i try to click it. is that button about push notifications?

Signal messages, same as all encrypted messages, do never get content displayed for notifications. That is a Cinny default for privacy purposes.

Since Cinny is designed more as a webapp/browser based app, I do assume that "desktop notification" switch is for browser notifications on desktop. I doubt this will do anything on Ubuntu Touch. I do have that disabled.

The numbers on the launcher icon are truly not fully reliable. But as far as I understand the code, matrix does not give a counter for unread messages, but for rooms with messages. That still doesn't fully work out.

I am on noble daily, and since a few days I do get notifications for matrix and signal messages and also for Teleports.

Was focal also the Cinny based on 4.10.0? Or was that still the one based on 4.6.0 Cinny?

Yes same version 4.10.0.2n. I have two phones, that's why i know XD

One thing you could please check, do you have background suspension disabled on both devices? Also are both on lkke wifi? Or does one is on mobile data and maybe drop to 2G with battery safer?

Have tried both wifi and mobile data. i have not done anything with the suspension settings on neither phone. The only thing i can think of is that push notifications maybe don't get pushed to two devices, but i get teleports on both at the same time, and always on focal. Tried Volte on and off. I could try to reflash the phone if i'm the only one with the issue, but it appears others have it too?

I tried to enable background suspension in UT Tweak Tools few days ago for Cinny, after I saw that push notifications don't come any more. Nothing changed, so I disabled it again. For me pushs don't come, whether I am on wifi or mobile data. I rarely drop to 2G ever, so thats probably not the issue for me.

I've investigated this issue a bit, and I think it's related to AppArmor security. I pulled the repo down and did some local testing, still experiencing the issue with notifications not appearing.

But after adding skip_review: true to the clickable.yaml, the notifications started coming through properly (when the app is closed, at least).

However, I can no longer replicate the issue. I suspect that the application (or possibly just the push service) doesn't properly uninstall. I'll keep debugging this to try and find a proper fix, it should just be a matter of setting the correct policies, but testing it isn't ideal.

Don't know if that is relevant for debugging or at least partly hotfixing the issue for some people until it is properly resolved. I realised after three weeks without any push notifications that I got a push again. Directly after rebooting the phone, when being on wifi, I directly started waydroid and from there send a "note to self" in my primary device signal instance and instantly got a push on Cinny signal bridge. After that, pushs came in at least for some time (maybe until restarting the phone?) also from external contacts and on mobile data.
I tried to reproduce the hotfix for "activation" of push notifications. Seems to only work every second or third time. Yesterday it failed but I also did not have much time for many repeats. Today it worked again 2 out of 5 tries. Doesn't work when I am on mobile data or when the "note to self" in waydroid signal is not the very first message after rebooting.

I am afraid, no, not really. Since there seems to be a random part involved, its hard to troubleshoot. (Right now) I do get notifications, so hard to find out why it fails.

Seems like there is an SSL error on the push gateway (I assume the UBPorts push server)?

Thanks a lot for checking. The ssl certificates for our push server had not been updated. But that should be fixed by now (around 15 UTC yesterday). But I think that issue arose only during the last few day. The missing notif issue is older.
