When trying to use /soft_replace hollowify_replace, I am not able to reproduce the actions you took in the video demonstration. I am able to get a partial internal replacement with no off-hand block, but if I hold an offhand block it's always a no-op. I am able to replace the partially filled block by re-running the command with a different main hand block and no-offhand block, but it will not fill additional layers.
I wondered if my shape was the problem, as I used a sphere, but I didn't see any difference with cubes (in fact I saw no first layer with cubes at all).
Let me know if there's any more detail that I can provide.
I did peek at the code, but I'm not familiar enough with the API to see anything obvious.
MC: 1.16.3
