Bad path in gen_lnbcs.pl

Working with @sshakoor1 we found that this path:

Line 88 in d74d118

$pcp_loc = "/gpfsm/dnb51/projects/p15/iau/merra_land/precip_CPCU-CMAP_corrected_MERRA/GEOSdas-2_1_4";

in gen_lnbcs.pl does not exist. And from our reading, this is what Ops would be using.

Is there a correct path? Maybe what MERRA2 and R21C are using?

@mathomp4 @rtodling @sshakoor1 : I'm pretty sure the "correct" path is:

/discover/nobackup/projects/gmao/merra//iau/merra_land/MERRA_land_forcing/precip_CPCU-CMAP_corrected_MERRA/

This path avoids the "dnb51" problem. Note that the "correct" path also includes one more directory "MERRA_land_forcing/".

However, this directory is empty.

I don't know enough about gen_lnbcs.pl to understand what kind of system would end up using this if condition. Perhaps this is/was used by the ocean DA?

The paths in this part of the code are for the location of corrected precipitation input files. The dir in question is owned by @gmao-qliu. Qing may know more.

OPS never uses this unless it's reanalysis ... and I am pretty sure this is fixed in the M2 runs ... indeed, just looking at,

/home/dao_ops/d5124_m2_jan10/run/lnbcs

I see (line 107):

ln -s /discover/nobackup/projects/gmao/share/dao_ops/fvInput/merra_land/precip_CPCUexcludeAfrica-CMAP_corrected_MERRA/ ExtData/PCP

which I believe to be the correct precip forcing for MERRA2.

The completion of the above in M2, found in AGCM.rc.tmpl shows:

ExtData/PCP/GEOSadas-5_12_4/d5124_rpit_jan12/Y%y4/M%m2/d5124_rpit_jan12.tavg1_2d_lfo_Nx_corr.%y4%m2%d2_%h230z.nc

M21C, for example,

/home/dao_ops/e5303_m21c_jan18/run/lnbcs

points to:

/bin/ln -sf /discover/nobackup/projects/gmao/share/dao_ops/fvInput/precip_correction ExtData/PCP

the completion of the path above in M21C, found in AGCM.rc.tmpl shows:

ExtData/PCP/precip_corr_R21C/diag/Y%y4/M%m2/R21C.tavg_1hr_prcpcorr_c360_sfc.%y4%m2%d2_%h230.nc4

None of the above seem to agree with what I see pointed out above.

It should be noted that only M2 and M21C use the precip forcing. No other atmospheric DA systems uses that.
