I see these benefits:
Ability to differentiate locally installed games vs games set as "installed" which are actually available on cloud
GeForce Now add-on for example marks games as installed when they are available on the platform, but the "installation folder" is empty. I have also added Amazon Luna-available games manually to Playnite as "installed", but the installation folder is blank and the play action just loads a URL in browser.
Ability to differentiate between games available on internal drives, vs external drives
Not a feature I would use, but I imagine helpful for some people.
Install Drive can already be used as a grouping field in Playnite's library view.
