Use RemoteStorage.js as backend

Is it possible to use [remotestorage.js](http://remotestorage.io) as backend?
It would make the app relying on a more common backend and so peoples will not have to install a custom backend for this app.

And subsidiary question: Is the backend mandatory in order for this app to work?
