Messages aren't always sent after switching browser tab

I've definitely had it happen, though can't reproduce. The message doesn't show up on your own screen but does get sent. This was on Chrome.

I actually think this is a problem with messages being received rather than sent. As they appear when I refresh (now we have persistence).

Just tried to replicate deliberately but can't. Will remember to test properly next time it happens naturally. But yeah it was in Chrome.
