Machine receives barcode via CFX message

Is it possible to, instead of having a barcode reader in front of a machine, use a CFX message (like CFX.Production.UnitsArrived) to send a barcode from an endpoint (like a MES host) to a machine endpoint, assuming the endpoint that sends the barcode knows the location of the board with that barcode?

If I correctly understood, this suggested solution might work for our case.

when ever a unit arrives infront of the machine. send the unit validation request with primary field empty. then in response to that, you will get the ValidateUnitsResponse. in the response you can Retrieve the barcode from primary result-
