I like to take out portions of the code and then optimize them and inject them back into the ROM

No, I mean don't add RAM labels in the assembly code.

They're already going in. I finished the enemy-specific labels in $A2-B3, and I started on bank $80. You can make a pull to revert the labels I've done (on the new branch) if you'd like.
