Instead of relying purely on RNG to roll a set of potion effects, nanomachines should be programmable or "flashable" like EEPROMs that exposes a nanomachines component that can be used in code. Also, it would be nice to have some custom visual effects. For example, if the nanomachines are set to act as an exoskeleton you would get resistance and an optional visual effects of turning metallic on the outside of the character.

The effects could work similarly to the complexity point system when assembling custom devices where you get X amount of points to dedicate to a number of different areas of effects. With a rework like this, it could be feasible to program the nanites to kick in when your health is low and form an exoskeleton and start regenerating your health
