mcomms upload freezes after initial send in both Linux and Windows

Hello,

I created a boot cd to test liteload w/ the latest version of mcomms (0.86 at the time of this post) and the transfer freezes after the initial send packet is sent. The PSX is frozen with "DOWNLOADING..." displayed on the top of the screen and the progress bar increments only once. I have tested in both Linux and Windows and the same cable works fine w/ mcomms when booting from the latest n00bROM.

Does your cable have the handshake wires connected and have you tried older versions of mcomms? LITELOAD doesn't do handshaking on the PS1 side yet whereas n00bROM does, but the handshaking can be ignored by leaving the handshake lines open.

My cable only has RX/TX connected and I haven't tried any older versions. Are you suggesting an older version of LITELOAD will work better if using this type of cable?

Are there any Windows binaries of older mcomms builds available online which I can test against this latest version of LITELOAD?

The binary release on mcomms' repo is quite old still, you could try that.

Just implemented some fixes for Windows in version 0.87 and tested with Liteload 1.3. Serial upload and execute works on both FTDI232 with handshake lines wired and a CH340 without handshake lines. You'll have to execute mcomms without the -hshake option as Liteload 1.3 doesn't handle handshake yet and mcomms would just freeze, but n00bROM's serial download does handle handshake. Also tested in Linux with both USB serial UARTs and it works fine.
