Turns off when installing apk, wont load without data clear

I prefer openShift to red moon but it seems quite buggy. Red moon is great but compositor dimming is just much better than filter dimming if you have root.

One of those benefits of course is it doesn't have the security issue of drawing over things and can therefore run when doing things like installing an apk.

But openshift still blinds me when installing an apk. Is openshift stopping itself like filter dimmers? Or is android?

Another issue is 99% of the time it doesn't work when first started up. Nothing changes when the sliders are moved.
I discovered that clearing its data fixed this.
I was even able to reduce the impact of this issue with a titanium backup clear data widget next to the icon on my homescreen bit its still not ideal.

Red moon just got an update. Could openshift get some love too? =D

It's unlikely that openshift will see much development. It's mostly a pilot project / proof of concept; the ultimate goal is to add compositor filtering to Red Moon: LibreShift/red-moon#150

The linked codes in that post are very useful thanks. For now I think I'll change from openshift to a termux shortcut to save data clearing each time.

Case in point: the recent release was prompted by a pull request, which reminded me that a release was long overdue, to update translations and include a couple of other merged pull requests.

That's fair enough. I wish I could help but I'm not the best of coders, only recently got into python. Perhaps after alot more self teaching I'll be worthy lol.

So there's no beta root build yet or anything? If not I'm still happy in the meantime with the termux shortcut.

Also, after some testing it looks like it is indeed android that is messing with the compositor settings and resetting it to blind me. Tested with termux shortcut and openshift force closed and it still happens when installing/uninstalling.

What has been done is over on the root-mode branch.

When I have something working, I'll likely release it right away with a note in the changelog that it may have bugs (much quicker to find the bugs that way ;). But, right now that's hard because I don't own a rooted/rootable device (much to my chagrin).

There's more ways to help than just coding (also mentioned in the readme) — any kind of engagement with the community is motivating to me (although, starting soon I'm not going to have much time for a week or two, while working on a paid project). Also, if you decided you were interested in contributing code, I'm happy to explain parts that you don't understand, etc.

Ah yea I agree. I'd do the same =D. When that happens I'm more than happy to test it.

That's really nice thanks. I might take you up on it eventually but as of now I'm totally unfamiliar with android coding. And even Java really. Syntax wise the closest I've gotten would be very light dabbling in JavaScript.

For now I can engage with making or helping in issues and bug/beta testing.
