@Samueru-sama I'm currently testing an AppImage on Ubuntu 22, but it doesn't work correctly. Therefore, I created a debug version of the AppImage. How should I use GDB to debug it?
When I debug bin/bambu-studio, it says there are no debug symbols.
But when I debug shared/bin/bambu-studio, the dynamic library linking is incorrect.

I'm testing the AppImage you linked and something that's odd is that the crash is not constant for some reason, sometimes it crashes when opening the app, other times it doesn't.

Another thing I noticed is that the top level bin directory has libraries Those will never be used by the application, they have to be in lib instead. If they were added there by lib4bin that's a bug 👀

Now to the issue

Unfortunately GDB only sees the sharun binary and doesn't know what to do.

sharun works with userland-execv by finding the bundled interpreter, then passing all the libraries bundled with the --library-path flag, and also sets a ton of env variables.

So you can make a debug appimage that bypasses sharun by extending the AppRun script to this, note I got the env variables by using SHARUN_PRINTENV=1:

There is a way to make this run bypassing sharun and using all the bundled libs, but means writting a very long shell script and also using patchelf to set a relative interpreter in the bins, I will try that report back.

You have to run patchelf --set-interpreter ./shared/lib/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 ./shared/bin/* and cp -r ./resources ./shared

However even after doing that there is some issues, like the fact I had to use LD_LIBRARY_PATH causes these errors because the program executes sh:

Also wait you might wanna do --set-interpreter ./lib/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 ./shared/bin/* instead, since otherwise the webkit binaries will not work since they get executed after the chdir where you have that lib symlink

How can modify the AppRun so the last part is exec gdb "$CURRENTDIR"/shared/bin/bambu-studio "$@" if using gdb directly on the AppRun doesn't work.

I have the same error on Artix linux, I actually checked with strace to see if there was something missing, will check again this time using strace -f to check all child processes. Because this is telling me that something is missing.

It seems that the glibc issue is also affecting GDB.
Would building and packaging the AppImage on an older version of Ubuntu help avoid this problem?

Btw I tested the AppImage in a 24.04 container and it still crashes, the only thing I can explain is that strip is breaking something. Try not passing the -s flag with lib4bin

The -s flag has already been removed, otherwise symbols can't be found.

It seems there's no way around it — I’ll have to bundle a bash binary into the AppImage.

I set the path to the static sh, but it doesn't work. The default sh is located at /usr/bin/sh, which is a symbolic link to dash. Modifying the /usr/bin/sh symlink doesn't have any effect. Even when I enter the static sh environment, running bambu-studio still defaults to calling /usr/bin/sh.

You have to replace /usr/bin/sh and the other bins called by bambu for their static versions.

This is only needed here to be able to use gdb due to the usage of LD_LIBRARY_PATH

@MackBambu If you are still stuck with this you might wanna raise this directly to sharun.

It is odd the application crashes without strace showing a reason why, of the over 30 applications that have been packaged with it this is it's the first time I see such issue.

@Samueru-sama Sorry, I was interrupted by other work and still haven't resolved the unknown error. On the Ubuntu 24 system where I compiled it, the program runs fine, but when I copy it to other systems, it doesn't work. It seems like some library wasn't properly packaged, or it could be an issue with libc, but I haven't been able to confirm it yet.
