Add text from telegram posts, not only a picture

Now, if I forward a post from telegram that have an image or text only — the content (image or text) is saved. If I forward one post that has image and text, the bot replies with the post with image and text, but in Karakeep app only the image is saved.

Would it be possible to save both image and text to the same Karakeep bookmark?

You can test it using the image ghcr.io/madh93/karakeepbot:edge.

When an image is uploaded, you can see that the title and note are updated:

As content could also contain hyperlinks or formatting and this is not preserved in Notes section. Do you think it would be much more difficult to put the text also to the content instead of Note?

As far as I know, the Karakeep API does not provide an option to specify the content when creating a bookmark. The content is generated afterwards, once the bookmark is created, as they mentioned:

The data in content goes through a bunch of post-processing after the crawling which makes me hesitant to make it editable. If the goal is to add more context for summarization, we can probably support it in hidden metadata fields described in #1376.

As far as I understand, for the case of both text and image in one post, it would be possible to use text as a content and then add image as an attachment/cover image.

This way it is possible to preserve formating, as in text only bookmarks, and to add an image to it.

Ideally, in case telegram post contains multiple images, it would be great to have all of those stored.

Thanks, I understand better what you mean now. Instead of creating an image-type bookmark, you’re suggesting creating a text-type bookmark and then adding the image as a banner.

That would be possible, but it would require changing the current logic of the bot, since by default, whenever it detects an image, it tries to create an image-type bookmark.

As I said, it’s doable, but I’d need to rethink the implementation a bit. On the other hand, it would be very helpful if you could share some examples of Telegram posts where you’ve needed this functionality.

I should have written it more clear from the beginning, but I did not think there are other options to implement it.

In case you will be adjusting bot logics, there are also posts with both video/GIFs and rich text in the same channel. Making foundation for this and more types of context mixture would be great...
