"Policy from file" only reads files on boot drive in MacOS

I am using MediaConch 22.03 for macOS (Mojave 10.14.6) and have been unable to get the "Policy from file" feature to work correctly when choosing files on external hard drives or network shares. the progress indicator spins for hours and nothing happens. Policies are generated instantly with files which are on the boot drive.
