Remove global rpy2 conversion

Currently we use a global conversion activation for numpy and pandas: numpy2ri.activate() in _r_wrapper.py. rpy2 states this is deprecated and should used local conversion rules. In the spi-feature branch, I did some work on this, but needed to move more quickly on this branch.
