Reading data from serial

My Son is making an old light gun game in the style of duck hunt he has made his gun using an Arduino with a LDR and a micro switch for the trigger, he wants to use Godot to program the game he needs to receive the LDR readings and the state of the switch. Arduino serial prints this data. I have helped him build SerCommPlugin and it connects to the Arduino on dev/ttyUSB0 and opens serial however everything we have tried to print the data from serial have not worked. Could anyone please point me in the right direction or provide some sample code to get us started any help would be fantastic
