xDrip+ crashes when I enable "Calibration Alerts"

In the moment I switch the toggle "Calibration Alerts", xDrip+ crashes and then reopens. After that, the toggle is still disabled.

Nothing is shown in "Events Log", but the moment it crashes I see the following two messages by running adb logcat | grep xDrip

So maybe it is something about notifications?

My phone is Samsung J7 Pro (SM-J730G) running Android 9 and xDrip+ version is nightly from 2021-12-8 (latest nightly), and I have the same issue in latest beta.

For your information, I just enabled it on my phone (Android 11) December 2, 2021 and there was no issue.

Just to remove any misunderstanding, would you please post a screenshot of the system status page, as well as the page on which you experience the crash? I don't mean to enable it and take a snapshot when it crashes. Just show the page please with the calibration alerts disabled.

Do you have any other Android phones you can test on?

Ideally, you would start from scratch on this same phone.
It is possible that some setting or a combination of settings causes this.
If that's the case, starting from scratch should solve the problem.
Then, modifying the settings one at a time and testing at each step may lead to identifying what setting is the culprit.

But, I'm not suggesting that you do that.
If you uninstall xDrip, you will lose all your data history in xDrip.
The only way to maintain it is to save the database. But, things can always go wrong. So, I'm not asking you to do it.
That's why I asked if you had another phone.

Hi @Navid200, today I tested with another Android 9 phone but from a different brand (Moto G Play). I installed xDrip+ and copied all the settings with the barcode share option (as a side note, I saw that alarms set in "Glucose Level Alerts List" are not copied when you do this, so I did it myself). Then I set Nightscout Follower as a BG source so it could get some data (otherwise I would have to remove my miaomiao to reset it, possible but would take some time) and added some random finger readings and calibrations. But I could not reproduce the issue. It seems to be specific to my phone.

I will try to build xDrip+ in Android Studio. But I'm afraid I would have to uninstall xDrip+ anyway when doing so, as the apk would not be signed by the developer. Is there a way to back up everything (including glucose data)? The data would be kept in Nightscout anyway, but I am afraid of having problems with AndroidAPS if I lose the data in xDrip+.

What's very important to note is that there is no way to import a database. You can only restore a database.
What this results is that you cannot combine a database with what you already have in xDrip. You can only overwrite it. I hope that makes sense.
If you take that into consideration, and are careful, you can go back and forth with no problem.

And yes, the only way to bring in the alerts is through restoring the database. The settings do not bring in the alerts.

@Navid200 the gitter chat didn't help much with my error but I managed to build. In case you want to add to the wiki: the build error I had was "Unable to load class 'javax.xml.bind.JAXBException'". Googled it and it is caused by newer versions of Studio using JDK11 instead of JDK8.

How to fix:

• install JDK8 (how to do this depends on your OS, in linux you can find it in most package repositories);
• go to Settings → Build, Execution, Deployment → Build Tools → Gradle
• change "Gradle JDK" to version 1.8 (aka JDK8), it seems you can also download and install it from the IDE itself but I did not try.

@Navid200 I was able to reproduce the bug in the other phone. The problem is somehow in my database. When I cleared the app data in my phone I had no issue, after importing the previous database the issue came back, and the same happens in the other phone. I think I will just delete it and start over, or do you suggest something else?

I opened my database and copied the structure from a fresh one by hand 🙃 now it works! and did not lose any data

so my suggestion is: xDrip could check if the database structure is in the right format, and if not throw a warning of fix it for the user
