Asterisk Test Plan

1. Internal Calls

Objective: Verify that calls between internal extensions work properly across different device types.

Test Steps:

1. Place a call between two internal extensions using:
   • IP Phone → IP Phone
   • IP Phone → WebRTC Client
   • IP Phone → Mobile Softphone
   • WebRTC Client → WebRTC Client
   • WebRTC Client → Mobile Softphone
   • Mobile Softphone → Mobile Softphone
2. Verify that:
   • The call is established successfully.
   • Audio quality is clear.
   • The call can be ended properly by either party.

Expected Results:

✅ Calls are successfully established and audio is clear on all devices.

2. External Calls

Objective: Ensure external calls (both incoming and outgoing) work properly with all device types.

Test Steps:

1. Make an outgoing call to an external number using:
   • IP Phone
   • WebRTC Client
   • Mobile Softphone
2. Receive an incoming call from an external number and answer it using:
   • IP Phone
   • WebRTC Client
   • Mobile Softphone
3. Verify:
   • Call is successfully connected.
   • Audio quality is clear.
   • Call can be terminated correctly.

Expected Results:

✅ External calls work correctly on all device types.

3. Queue Functionality

Objective: Test call queue behavior and agent handling.

Test Steps:

1. Set up a queue with multiple agents.
2. Place a call into the queue and verify:
   • The call is placed in the queue correctly.
   • The system announces the caller's position in the queue.
   • The call is properly routed to an available agent.
   • If no agents are available, the fallback behavior (voicemail, redirect, etc.) works correctly.
   • The queue statistics are updated properly.

Expected Results:

✅ Calls are correctly queued, routed, and logged.

4. DTMF Verification

Objective: Confirm that DTMF tones are correctly transmitted and recognized.

Test Steps:

1. Call into an IVR (Interactive Voice Response) menu and press different options.
2. Dial into voicemail and enter PIN using DTMF.
3. Use DTMF tones for call transfer.

Expected Results:

✅ DTMF tones are correctly recognized in IVR, voicemail, and call transfers.

5. Call Parking

Objective: Verify the call parking and retrieval functionality.

Test Steps:

1. Place an active call on hold and park it.
2. Retrieve the parked call from another extension.
3. Let the parked call timeout and check if it returns to the original extension.

Expected Results:

✅ Calls can be parked, retrieved, and timeout behavior is correct.

6. Conference Calls

Objective: Ensure proper conference call functionality.

Test Steps:

1. Initiate a conference call with multiple participants.
2. Verify that:
   • All participants can join successfully.
   • Audio is clear for all participants.
   • Mute/unmute functions work.
   • Participants can leave and rejoin without issues.

7. Call Groups

Objective: Test call groups for proper ringing and call distribution.

Test Steps:

1. Call a ring group and verify:
   • All assigned extensions ring according to the configured strategy (e.g., ring all, hunt, linear).

2. Call a pickup group and verify that another user can answer the call by dialing the pickup code.

Expected Results:

✅ Call groups function as expected with correct ringing and pickup behavior.

8. NethVoice CTI Event Handling

Objective: Verify that NethVoice CTI correctly receives and displays call events.

Test Steps:

1. Initiate and receive calls and check if the Asterisk Manager Interface (AMI) sends real-time events.
2. Verify that:
   • The NethVoice CTI interface updates call statuses in real-time.
   • Events such as call ringing, answered, on-hold, and hang-up are displayed correctly.

Expected Results:

✅ NethVoice CTI receives and displays call events in real-time.

9. Database Logging (CDR, CEL, Queue Log)

Objective: Ensure call data is properly logged in MariaDB for tracking and reporting.

Test Steps:

1. Make different types of calls (internal, external, queued).
2. Verify that the following tables are updated correctly:
   • CDR (Call Detail Records): Logs all call activity.
   • CEL (Call Event Logging): Logs detailed call events (e.g., ringing, hold, transfer).
   • queue_log: Stores queue-related events.

Expected Results:

✅ Call records are correctly logged in CDR, CEL, and queue_log tables.

Additional Tests (Optional but Recommended)

• Hold: Verify hold of a call
• Voicemail Handling: Verify voicemail recording, playback, and notification features.
• Call Transfers: Test both blind and attended transfers.
• Failover Handling: Simulate network failures and check Asterisk’s behavior.
