Just wondering if someone can advise what the status of this repository is?
What version(s) of Qt does it use (the README page suggests it is still using Qt5)?
What distributions and version of Linux does it run on?

I made a reasonable effort to support Qt6 a couple of years ago. However, as I made all that under MacOS, I am not 100 % sure whether I caught all things that have changed between Qt5 and 6. Testers (in particular on Linux which I don't have – my other system is FreeBSD) are welcome.

Apart from that, I don't think it is picky on actual Linux distributions in any way.

Nothing I can see suggests it is good for Qt6. The README instructions appear to be only for Qt5.
Another repository which tried to get QSSTV running under Qt6 (pa2eon/QT6SSTV) built OK 2yrs ago (either from command line or via QtCreator) but when run does not decode DRM. I put some comprehensive instructions in that repo (see wiki) on how to set up PC to build that repository, but those instructions didn't work with this repository (too much is broken).
I'm happy to test, but I would need your instructions on how to set up a build environment that will build this code. My experience a couple of years ago was this repository won't build with Qt6.
It would be great to make improvements/add functionality to QSSTV. But I think we need to get this caught up to date with 'current' Qt6 first. Or maybe we should leave this repo as is and all focus on getting the QT6 repo going??

You're right, it's probably time to update the README regarding Qt6. Since I could only test it under MacOS (and not Linux), I wasn't so sure whether my Qt6 porting actually covered everything.
I never made a successful QSO with DRM, alas. I remember I tried it some time ago. I cannot really imagine this would be a Qt6 issue though, because the GUI shouldn't affect the algorithms in any way, but well, I could try using my older Linux laptop and Qt5.

We did a detailed code comparison. We never got to the root of the problem (or we would have fixed it), but it did appear to be something to do with Qt6 and its inbuilt libraries. We went backwards and forwards trying to compare the essential differences (to make it build). Nothing was ‘wrong’ with the code itself. My Wiki on the QT6 might help you sent up a clean environment. That’s how I did it – worked from a brand new install. I used VM’s so I could blow away the changes and go back to fresh install each time until it worked step-by-step. That indeed sounds strange. I would never have expected Qt to have an influence on this.

I'll see whether I can reproduce that on my FreeBSD machine where I do have both, Qt5 and Qt6 installed.

Hi Eric The bug is reported here pa2eon/QT6SSTV#1 This may help you see history too. As mentioned, back in 2023, I did not test with ON4QZ/QSSTV repository because of too many issues trying to build with Qt6 Dave [mail quote deleted]

Testers (in particular on Linux which I don't have – my other system is FreeBSD) are welcome.

I have build Qsstv for Qt6 on Gentoo Linux just some days ago and used it a little bit. No problems until now. To be honest only analog SSTV modes were tested yet.

The v4l part seems to work flawlessly. Access to the webcam works as expected.

For a build for Qt6 it was only needed to use qmake6 instead of qmake5.

Dave, could you attach them to the issue tracker on Github? If you cannot, please send them to me privately, and I'll attach them.

That would be a great help in tracking the DRM problem.

How is your Gentoo Linux machine built?

Standard Gentoo installation with mostly stable packages.

What libraries do you have installed?

Installation is based on qsstv-9.5.8 requirements with

• hamlib-4.6.2
• openpeg-2.5.2
• libv4l-1.28.0
• fftw-3.3.10
• libpulse-17.0

What version of Qt6 were you building with?

qtbase-6.8.2

Did you build via command prompt or using QtCreator?

Building from command line with the following commands:
$ cd src
$ mkdir build
$ cd build
$ qmake6 ..
$ make

Works cleanly without problems. At the moment I did not install the program but run it direct from build folder via ./qsstv

Past problems were with DSSTV reception so if you could see if that works for you, that would be a really useful test.

As Jörg already stated access to that audio files would be helpful for tests.

Please be aware that I will be away the coming week, so it may took me some time to check the DSSTV reception.
