[Bug] export issue with hyprland

Description

when export to html file in hyprland, issue happens:

seems problem with portal protocal.

hyprland has its own portal impl.

Environment

• OS: artix
• Ferrite version: 0.2.6.1
• Installation method: binary

Root Cause

xdg-desktop-portal-hyprland does not implement file picker functionality.

Hyprland's portal implementation only provides screen sharing capabilities. When Ferrite tries to open a save dialog (via the rfd crate), it attempts to use the XDG Desktop Portal backend, but the FileChooser interface is unavailable on Hyprland.

This is a known limitation documented in the Hyprland wiki and multiple rfd issue reports.

Solution

You need to install a separate XDG Desktop Portal backend alongside xdg-desktop-portal-hyprland that provides file picker functionality.

For Artix Linux (your distro):

Install one of these backends:

Option 1: GTK portal (recommended for minimal systems)

sudo pacman -S xdg-desktop-portal-gtk

Option 2: GNOME portal (if you have GNOME components)

sudo pacman -S xdg-desktop-portal-gnome

Option 3: KDE portal (if you have KDE components)

sudo pacman -S xdg-desktop-portal-kde

Important: You Need BOTH

You should have both xdg-desktop-portal-hyprland AND one of the above installed:

• xdg-desktop-portal-hyprland → handles screen sharing
• xdg-desktop-portal-gtk (or -gnome/-kde) → handles file dialogs

Verify Installation

Check which portals are installed:

ls /usr/share/xdg-desktop-portal/portals/

You should see both:

• hyprland.portal
• gtk.portal (or gnome.portal / kde.portal)

Restart Services

After installation, restart the portal services:

systemctl --user restart xdg-desktop-portal
systemctl --user restart xdg-desktop-portal-hyprland
systemctl --user restart xdg-desktop-portal-gtk  # or -gnome/-kde

Alternative Workaround

If you cannot install a portal backend, you can try:

1. Use the terminal to export: Copy the markdown content and use a CLI tool to convert to HTML
2. Use "Copy as HTML" feature: The clipboard functionality doesn't require file dialogs (Ctrl+Shift+C or ribbon button)

What We Can Do

We're evaluating options to improve this experience:

1. Better error messages: Detect portal failures and show a helpful dialog explaining the missing backend
2. Zenity fallback: rfd 0.14+ includes a zenity fallback for systems without proper portal setup
3. Documentation: Add this to our Linux installation requirements

I will look further into it, and see what we can do in 0.2.7 to make this better
