package.lternet.edu (AWS) experienced a disk-full exception

A user reported the following exception when attempting to update a data package:

Error uploading packageId 'knb-lter-sbc.74.27': PASTA returned status code 500 - HTTP Status 500 – Internal Server ErrorType Exception ReportMessage java.io.IOException: No space left on device

The primary SSD disk hosting the package.lternet.edu service is currently at 100%.

package.lternet.edu still allows the createDataPackageArchive service API method to create a static archive zip file, made available to the client for subsequent downloads. This method should be officially deprecated in favor of the downloadDataPackageArchive method, which streams content in real-time and does not create a static zip file that needs to be garbage collected at some later time.

As an interim fix, I have rerouted static archive zip files to the S3 storage mount /home/pasta/local/s3/archives . These files will still be garbage collected at a 60-minute TTL interval.
