Outline
Newsletter hero image request for WTF does a product manager do? (and why engineers should care) scheduled for March 9. The article is about the most important things product managers do (from a PostHog perspective), and what things engineers can learn from them:
- Providing the right context for engineers to make product decisions (ex: user interviews, competitor analysis, metrics)
- Defining and tracking success (ex: growth reviews, quarterly planning, accountability)
- Translating ideas into action (ex: taking vague discussions and turning into a measurable plan with success criteria)
For the hero image, I was thinking of something like this where Max is navigating a ship by looking at the stars to convey "Providing the right context":
Just like how sailors used to navigate using the stars, engineers depend on context to make the right product decisions.
Providing the right context is a product manager's most important job. Good context naturally points the team in the right direction; great context can change a company's trajectory.
What's important is that the hedgehog isn't dictating the direction or using a compass or something. It's about providing almost like a constellation of useful information, setting the stage/environment for the best decisions to naturally happen
Another option could be a Max version of this meme to go with the WTF title, and it could be reusable in other future content.
