Milestones

  • We already have one designed experimental apparatus that Veronica made: https://github.com/PubInv/ferrofluidcheckvalve/blob/master/model/FerrofluidModel.STL However, I don't have Solidworks, I would rather have this in OpenSCAD. Also, we need to change it based on the new design so that can test the new, hopefully more effective design (that used more than the hemisphere.)

  • This milestone will be carried out using just a simple acrylic tube, a magnet and a mamometer. Out goal here is two-fold: 1) We want to validate the math in our current paper, mainly by checking displacement at collapse. 2) We want to measure the actual force (which will be calculated from the pressure), in order to estimate the susceptibility of our commercial ferrofluid. This will then be used to estimate the actual crack and collapse point. One might think this is not useful, given that it does not effect the valve itself. However, it is easy and gives us a useful check on our math and predicts future behavior.
