Explicit contributing guidelines helps contributors from various knowledge background to produce consistent code. The consisteny across the code base scales up the collaborations among contributors.
A contribution file should describe the follows
- Branching model. This helps the contributors find relevant branches.
- Coding Standards. This helps the contributors specify their code file names and formats.
- Development workflow. This helps the contributors to set up the rationale of their work(issue-driven development), to isolate their work (branching rules), and to publish their work (pull request). #6
- An example for the contributors to follow.
