Shoot forward, the drone activates after a second. Once activated it will start to track the closest player (the shooter included) and attempt to knock that player out of the playing field. The drone has roughly half the mass of the players but is much faster.
There are two ways to get rid of it; either wait until it runs out of fuel after ten seconds (but the targeted player is unlikely to endure its constant harassment for that long) or pass it on to another player by colliding with them. The drone will then start to harass the new player instead. The drone always aims a laser on the targeted player to make it clear who is targeted.
If the drone would get knocked out of the playing field or fly outside the borders by mistake it is not eliminated like players would be (except when it is out of fuel), and will quickly return back in.
