Version 3.6 - iPad - Red Screen on first start when deployed via MDM

Describe the bug

When I open Safe Exam Browser on an iPad, after the App was installed for the first time with MDM (intune) Config, I receive the following error message: SEB was locked because single app mode was switched off during the exam or the device was restarted.

This also happens every time I force quit the App on the iPad and start it again..
It prompts to "Confirm App Self Lock" and then jumps to the red screen.

That Screen has 3 log entries:
Secure Session Started
Re-Opening an exam which was locked before
Secure Session was started

This ONLY happens when app and config are distributed via MDM (Intune), it does not happen on my config iPad.
It is irrelevant what start or quit URL I use.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Deploy the app via MDM
2. Start App on iPad
3. Confirm App Self Lock

Expected behavior
On the older versions from early 2025, it just started on the starturl

We are kinda desparate as we distribute this to our online students as well, and having to give them the Quit code really breaks the entire concept.

On your managed iPads, are you using the MDM restriction "Managed apps cloud sync not allowed” (sometimes called "Managed App’s stored data in iCloud" or "Allow managed apps to store data")?

There is an issue with the iOS AAC Assessment Mode with this restriction being active. iOS might switch AAC off or terminate SEB when this restriction is applied to the device. Apple is working on a fix.

If you don't have this restriction active, then please send me a list of your restrictions (screen shot of the restrictions in Settings —> General —> VPN and Device Management).

We do not have this restriction set up. In fact, we use only one restriction restricting Airdrop when on Campus.

I'm seeing the same issue. No restrictions set on the iPads. Red screen only appears on first open, after the quit password has been put in it all works as usual.

Yes, this only happens with MDM configured SEB. It is a new occurrence as we've been using the same setup for 4/5 years now.

Same here, we have not changed our MDM configuration, but right now every time the app starts fresh, the red screen appears.

I'm not aware of having changed anything regarding MDM configuration, but maybe something changed in iOS. I will investigate further and fix the issue.

This issue should be fixed in the current SEB 3.6.1 TestFlight Build 15700.

Please test and confirm it works for you now. I will release SEB 3.6.1 publicly as soon as the fix is successfully tested.
