'Run on Startup' not working + Suggestions #139

Version:
v1.4.2 (But also older versions)

Issue:
'Run on Startup' is enabled but Segra does not launch

Info:
I have enabled 'Run on Startup" and it appears in task manager and the startup folder yet it never launches. I had a similar issue with the Elgato software Wavelink but I got around that issue by creating a task in Task Scheduler with 30 seconds delay. However, when I use that workaround for Segra I get a pop-up window that says:

"Recorder Error. Could not initialize recorder. Failed to initialize the recorder. Please check the logs for more details."

When I start it manually I have no error, but if this error is relevant to why it doesn't "Run on Startup", I thought to include this info.
I had my friend download Segra and they encountered the same "Run on Startup" issue and had to manually start it. I checked and it's running as administrator so it's not that.

There is no log when I try to "Run on Startup" normally as it doesn't open so I cannot check why. But for the normal log, I can see that the 4th logged event in the timeline states that the settings file is not found, despite it being there when I check.

[INF] Settings file not found at C:\Users\ _____\AppData\Roaming\Segra\settings.json. Using default settings.

I don't know if this is relevant given my settings are saving but I thought to also include this.

Suggestions:
I only have a few suggestions for this awesome program, one would be a huge benefit to discord users.

  1. Clipping target file size.
I wonder if it is possible to include a target file size for the clipping part of Segra. I Use a program called VidCoder to compress my game clips into small enough sizes to send on discord. That program has a feature that lets you set a target file size to compress to. Discord has a 10MB file limit so I usually set the target file size to 8MB because sometimes it will go over the limit but 90% of the time it works great. So if possible, it would be great for this to be included inside Segra instead of needing a separate software. Just a suggestion, I am perfectly happy with Segra as it is! (Minus Run on start up lol)

  2. Replay buffer user feedback on successful capture.
There is a sound that plays when a moment has been captured, however it is really quiet (at least for my setup) and offers minimum feedback that it worked. I would suggest you allow the user to increase the volume even more or customize our own sound or if it's even possible, provide an onscreen notification/icon to indicate successful capture.

  3. Reduce menu options when features aren't used.
I only use the replay buffer feature to manually capture scenes in my games. I would love it if I could hide the 'Full Sessions' and the 'Highlights' menu options as I will never use them. But honestly this is such a minor thing, just a suggestion! :D

I really love this app, great work on it!
