Welcome to JoyBoy Discussions!
JoyBoy is a local-first AI workstation and model orchestration harness. The goal is simple: a private ChatGPT/Grok-style local app that can chat with Ollama, edit/generate images, experiment with video, manage local models, and grow into a Codex/Claude-Code-style project mode without sending your work to a cloud service.
What this space is for
Use Discussions for things that are bigger than a bug report but smaller than a formal roadmap item:
Use Issues for confirmed bugs, small scoped tasks, and good-first-issue work.
Quick FAQ
What is JoyBoy?
JoyBoy is a local AI harness: it coordinates chat models, image models, video experiments, model imports, runtime jobs, and local addons inside one desktop-style web app.
Why call it a harness?
Because JoyBoy is not just a model wrapper. It handles routing, job state, model loading/unloading, VRAM pressure, conversations, tools, galleries, addons, and future project-mode workflows. The interesting part is the orchestration layer around the models.
Is everything local?
The core app is local-first. Some downloads may come from Hugging Face, CivitAI, Ollama, or other provider URLs if the user configures them. Provider keys live outside git in the local JoyBoy config.
What languages does the project care about?
The app currently targets French, English, Spanish, and Italian. If you add UI text, please keep translations in mind.
What about mature/adult local packs?
Some optional third-party local packs may target mature workflows where legal, consensual, and compliant with platform policies. They are not part of the public core.
Keep GitHub Discussions clean and project-focused: do not post explicit media, sexualized examples, non-consensual content, minors, bypass guides, or anything that violates GitHub policy. It is fine to discuss pack architecture, compatibility, safety boundaries, install mechanics, and neutral documentation.
Where should addon ideas go?
Use the Ideas category for new addon concepts. Use Q&A if you need help installing or debugging a pack. Use Issues only once the work is concrete enough to implement.
What is project mode?
Project mode is the Codex/Claude Code-style direction: conversations attached to a workspace, tool execution, repo-aware assistance, safer terminal actions, and durable job state. It is still evolving.
