Overview

Google recently introduced a new Agent-to-Agent (A2A) protocol for agent communication, which is gaining popularity. Thanks to Google's contributions, the protocol is developing rapidly and reaching higher levels of maturity.

Background

Our project currently uses a custom agent-protocol implementation for A2A communication (https://agentprotocol.ai/). Google's A2A standard offers several advantages including wider adoption and active development.

Goal

Migrate AutoGPT's existing agent-protocol A2A implementation to adopt Google's A2A protocol standard. This migration would benefit our project in several ways:

  • Leverage the rapid development and ongoing contributions in the Google repository
  • Improve interoperability with other systems adopting this standard
  • Reduce maintenance burden by following an established specification
  • Position AutoGPT to stay current with evolving industry standards
