Zoom recordings do not play nice with auto-editor -- at least this has been my experience. So I am in search of an alternative for my recording of group meetings. Some things on the shortlist:
- Microsoft Teams
- Google Meet
I'd also like to find a software application that doesn't depend upon an internet connection at all, for recording outside/away from WiFi. I own a license for TechSmith's Snagit software, and it can work OK if you standardize its recordings to CFR (since it records in VFR), but every time you stop a recording, it processes it right there and then (you have to wait for it to finish before you can start a new recording, leading to awkward pauses between recording segments. This interrupts the flow of the recording process).
I may settle for aways using a video meeting application if I can't find any offline recording application that will let me record in split video segments without processing each in turn as I go. I don't truly "need" to support offline recording, it just kind of doesn't make sense to have a quality bottleneck be one's internet connection for solo recordings that have no particular reason to depend upon one's internet connection.
Ideally, I'd be able to find multiple alternatives (both for group meetings and offline recordings), but I'd settle for finding even one application that fulfills all my criteria:
- Supports decent quality/framerate at 1080p
- Supports group video meetings (like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.). If it supports groups, it will also support solo recording, so long as one has an internet connection.
- Allows one to record multiple split segments, without having to process each segment before you start a new one; allows for seamless recording, yet with split segments
