Symptoms

Game crash during bootup sequence. The game opens and proceeds to load RPG Developer Bakin's (the game engine it is built in) core modules. Upon reaching the step of loading the Battle Engine, the following message appears:

"Invalid Image: filepath to Steam folder\Steam\steamapps\common\Proton\files\share\wine\mono\wine-mono\lib\mono\4.5\System.Net.Dll"

Closing the message does not close the application and must be killed, the close buttons become unresponsive.

Screenshot from a separate user on the Steam forums, who seemed to have used Proton Experimental, but the concerned file and issue is the same: https://imgur.com/eicPcFo

Reproduction

Boot the game up. I've used a Steam Deck, but this occurs on desktop Linux builds as well.

Additional Information: I'm the developer for this particular game. However, this is an engine-wide issue with all games exported with RPG Developer Bakin (Steam App ID: 1036640, list of games concerned: https://steamdb.info/tech/Engine/RPG_Developer_Bakin/).

To be even more specific, this crash occurs only if the game has been built and exported from any version of the engine published since early 2025. Ecrazeus Castle Demo has been built using the current version of the engine, Version 2.2.1.2.

From personal (personal itch io games built in 2024 and 2025) and community discord testing, games exported using the engine build from 2024 and prior older versions do run in Proton, and do not crash.
It is possible that this bug occurred as a result of RPG Developer Bakin Ver 1.13.2 (https://steamdb.info/patchnotes/17935135/), which specifies Internal Engine Optimizations.

As long as the crash occurs during the loading process (where each module is listed in text form at the bottom left of the screen), it is the part of the engine that users of the engine cannot modify.

The engine itself has rollback versions on Steam for any previous versions of the engine.
However, the game editor itself never worked on Proton to begin with, only the exported games did (prior to 2025 versions).
