Has the iTerm2 setting moved?

I was excited when I read this line in the README.md:

- **macOS Terminal.app / iTerm2**: iTerm2 has "Scroll to bottom on output" in Preferences > Profiles > Terminal. Uncheck it. Terminal.app has no equivalent — use tmux.

But then sad when I couldn't find that in iTerm2 (v3.6.9). I looked lots of other places, but the closest I could find was here, and it was already set :( (screenshot below)

Any other suggestions greatly appreciated. It also has me wondering if the problem is Claude Code or iTerm2.

You're right that the setting may have moved in recent iTerm2 versions. The README was written against an older version where "Scroll to bottom on output" was a standalone checkbox under Preferences > Profiles > Terminal.

Looking at your screenshot, the closest equivalent in 3.6.9 appears to be the "Scroll on output" option you already found in the General tab of your profile settings — which you said is already set. That's likely the same control, just relocated.

If it's already unchecked and you're still getting scroll jumping with Claude Code, then the fix doesn't apply to your setup and the root cause is likely Claude Code itself using cursor repositioning (ANSI escape sequences like CSI H) that terminals interpret as "move viewport." This is the same issue across all terminals.

What actually helps on macOS/iTerm2:

1. tmux (Fix 2 in the README) — this is the most reliable fix because tmux absorbs the cursor repositioning within its own virtual terminal. brew install tmux, then just run tmux before starting claude.
2. If you don't want tmux, try enabling iTerm2's "Terminal.app compatibility" mode (Preferences > Profiles > Terminal > Terminal Emulation) which may handle the escape sequences differently.

Let me know if tmux resolves it for you. And you're correct that the underlying issue is Claude Code, not iTerm2 — we're just working around it until Anthropic patches the scroll behavior upstream.
