Projects V2 Start and Complete Times

As a(n) Project Manager I want automatic tracking of project start and completion dates so that I can accurately measure project timelines without manual intervention.

Executive Summary

We need to implement automatic date tracking for Projects V2 based on status changes. The system should intelligently set start and completion dates when issues move to "Work in Progress" or "Complete" states respectively, while respecting any manual overrides made by users. This automation will improve project timeline accuracy and reduce manual tracking overhead.

Acceptance Criteria

(Based on the Status projects v2 field)

• Automatically set "Start Date" when status changes to "Work in Progress"
• Automatically set "Completion Date" when status changes to "Complete" and issue is closed
• Preserve manually set dates - do not override if dates were manually configured
• Implement logic to check if fields have been manually modified before applying automatic updates
