On our server, we use an experience multiplier to control the amount of experience given by experience bottles. The developers have modified the behavior so that experience is applied immediately when the bottle is used, without needing to throw it. However, players have found a workaround:
They place experience bottles in their off-hand and hold a block in their main hand. This allows them to throw the bottle normally, causing it to break on the ground and granting the multiplied experience.
This behavior bypasses the intended functionality and allows players to exploit the experience multiplier.
