Perhaps you can also store the labels, using the X-GM-LABELS extension as a json for each message?

Otherwise, my understanding is that the labels are not part of the message and hence are not actually stored.

I target specific labels I'm backing up, and modify the script to the label I want to backup, and run it from a folder of that name. Not elegant or comprehensive, but straightforward and simple for many cases.

also, with the changes in my PR, you could pass each item in the list of labels successively, along with a target save path
