Integration with IEF

I know there's a plan for this feature, which is currently blocked by the way IEF saves an entity reference field. Would like to suggest a possible work-around till that get's unblocked. Unfortunately, it also depends on a patch of IEF, that however is more minor and might be committed earlier.
