Onboarding / data directory setup

Status quo: the application tries to write outputs to `~/fit_testing/`. Starting a test fails if this directory does not exist.

Desired: ???

Options:
- Just create `~/fit_testing` (or equivalent) if needed.
- Ask the user for their preferred output directory on first run.
- Use an OS-standard configuration directory?
