Edits in split view do not save

Describe the bug
When making an edit using the split view, and then closing the split view by clicking the icon i do not get a save prompt nor is the file autosaved. It just resets back to its previous state.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Open md file
2. edit text when in split view
3. click split view icon once more to close
4. edit not saved and no saving prompt.

Expected behavior
Either auto save or save prompt.
