App freezes a few seconds due to "enlighten" thread starting

Sometimes the app freezes for a few seconds. This is due to Unity starting an "enlighten" thread. I haven't been able to turn this off. The app doesn't use enlighten (AFAIK) so would be nice if it didn't start.

Now I think the freeze maybe due to another thing:

Execution of the command buffer was aborted due to an error during execution. Discarded (victim of GPU error/recovery) (IOAF code 5)

Anyone knows anything about this? I've googled and seems it used to be a problem with Unity (5?) and should now be fixed. Is there anything I can do to avoid it?

This error can be the result of A) a driver bug or B) a shader reading or writing outside the bounds of a buffer.
