Dictation with lid closed

I have an external mic and dual external screens so I often have the mac lid closed. This seems to shut off the mic. Is there any way of making this work or am I missing something? If its helpful, other STT tools prompt when the lid is closed and ask to choose an external mic. Thanks - great work on this!

I had the same issue but unfortunately it's a hardware lock and nothing can be done to make mic work with lid off :(( I wish it was different as well
