Constant Build Activity

I'm moving my project from Eclipse 2020 to 2025. I just installed this plugin, which I used before in 2020. I get constant build activity every second or so. If I do another operation that's slow, I can see that it's "Eclipse Integration for Tapestry5" doing something. How can I get it to stop that?

Somewhat of an update, it doesn't happen all of the time. Not sure what's up. It comes and goes. Using Tapestry 5.8.7. And thanks for starting and maintaining this project! Very handy.

I tried to run the plugin on a small Tapestry5 project in a freshly downloaded Eclipse 2025 and see nothing similar to what you're describing. It was a Tapestry 5.5.0 project though, I don't have anything with version 5.8.7 at hand.

The plugin is monitoring resource changes in a workspace and updating its internal model to match the changes.

What you see, likely, is the plugin's response to other activities that are modifying resources in your projects.

If only one of two files are changed, the plugin is able to analyse just that the updated files and update its state accordingly.

But there's also a hardcoded threshold of 25 files in one change, which usually happens during clean build, when the plugin gives up on individual files and falls back to analysing entire project from scratch, I suspect it may be your case.

If you open the Progress view (Window -> Show View -> Progress) you should get a bit more details on what exactly this and other plugins are doing.

I would also suggest you to check the Error Log view, if there are any errors from this plugin, please share them here.

Also if you can provide a link to a project where you can reproduce this behaviour it may help troubleshooting.

You may also checkout this project and run it from within Eclipse under debugger, open your workspace and set a breakpoint in the method I linked above to look around and see which changes are triggering the analysis.

Nothing else is going on. I left it sit for 2 hours, it keeps doing it. If I restart Eclipse it doesn't do it until I edit a Tapestry page java file, even trivially.

According to "find . -type f -mmin -5" no files have changed (I'm running on Windows but I have cygwin installed.) Looking in the Progress view, it is doing something "Building" but it takes like 1/10 of a second. The Error Log shows nothing.

If I restart Eclipse, open a Page class, then use the hotkey to switch to the .tml file, the plugin analyzes stuff one time. That seems normal. After some experimentation, I think it only happens if I edit pages that have @import annotations that the plugin generates a warning for (i.e. underlines as not being able to find.) For example, "${tapestry.scriptaculous}/prototype.js" (I'm still using Prototype.js). Maybe that's the issue or something similar?
