This is more of an idea than an issue...
Some things would be nice to be captured once at the beginning of an observing session, then packed away to free up real estate on the screen. Examples:

• latitutde/longitude
• username (if we want to keep this at all)
• We could require the user to enter date/time, then this would set the system datetime which would be used from then on.

Another idea: scroll the window, which gives us more space and we can section off different categories
