A pyproject.toml file appears to have been introduced in the v1.10.0 release. The pyproject.toml file (correctly) specifies a lower bound on setuptools of v61.0.0, since that was the first version to add support for this file. Unfortunately, setuptools dropped support for Python 2.7 long before that, in v45.0.0. This means installs of pyperclip are now broken in Python 2.7 environments. Using an Ubuntu 18.04 VM with python-pip installed:
